Hi, my name is James "Skip" Burns and here at GapSmart! I do all the Gap Year Consulting. Here's a quick bio so you can get to know me...
I'm a 2004 graduate of the University of New Hampshire. After graduating I spent two years with AmeriCorps*NCCC out of Denver, CO wherein I came to realize that finding and following your personal passion is the key to a successful and fulfilling life.
After my Gap Years, I worked at the Pine Ridge School in Vermont working primarily with students with language based learning differences such as dyslexia.
In 2008 I fulfilled a life long dream of riding his bicycle across the country in support of the affordable housing cause with the nonprofit, Bike & Build Inc. I co-led a trip from Boston to Santa Barbara.
Currently, I'm finishing a Master's in Secondary Education through the University of New Hampshire. My real passion is teaching and developing leadership skills in youth.
I also continue to give back through service and I'm a big brother through Big Brothers Big Sisters and a high school wrestling coach.
Below is an ebook I wrote that outlines the philosophy of GapSmart!
